Education Summer Camps

The River Institute provides educational experiences that motivate, encourage and inspire young people to pursue in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields.   

Camp Update regarding COVID-19

New measures have been put in place for the safety of our staff and our campers in faces of the COVID-19 crisis. If a participant refuses to conform to any of these new measure put in place by the River Institute pertaining to protection against COVID-19, the River Institute reserves the right to dismiss the participant from the program. Please make sure to carefully read the 2022 Jr Scientist Camp Handbook for explanation of the COVID-19 prevention measures that will be in place. Please note that all Eco Friends camps have been cancelled for 2022.

Junior Scientist Camp

Since 1997 the St. Lawrence River Institute of Environmental Sciences has provided local youth with the opportunity to explore nature. The Jr. Scientist Camp challenges participants to learn about science and the natural environment in a hands on, minds-on manner. This program, offered for two weeks, is for 12 to 15 years old who want to dive deeper into science. Participants experience environmental biology by assisting the River Institute’s scientists with their ongoing research initiatives. This camp is from 9am to 4pm at the River Institute*.

Eco Friends

The Eco Friends camp introduces the wonderful world of science to kids ages 6-11. This summer Eco Friends will be half day workshops on Mondays in August. Participants will explore a variety of themes with River Institute scientists. This camp is from 1pm-3pm at Cooper Marsh.
